On “Father’s Daughter,” Anna Moon + The Stars explore themes of family, identity, and the effects that linger even when we are on our own. The track provides listeners with an appetizer from Moon’s upcoming long player.
Moon shares, “I come from a complicated line of imperfect human beings who have all been trying to do their best, even when their best wasn’t always enough. ‘Father’s Daughter’ is a celebration of the pain that shapes us and the multitudes we hold.”
Written with longtime collaborator and producer Ryan Hughes, “Father’s Daughter” draws on Anna’s perspective as the youngest daughter in a byzantine family, transforming inherited pain into a hopeful alt-country song.
The lyrics reveal profound, genuine emotions: “I remember pain / The kind that hangs on / Even when I’m running away.”
Anna Moon + The Stars’ sound sits somewhere between Americana, indie-folk, and heartland rock. It’s a sound that reveals complex layers of vulnerability, intimacy, and compassion.
Originally from Littleton, Colorado, Moon started learning guitar when she was fourteen years old. As soon as she knew three chords, she wrote a song. Since then, she has worked with producers and artists like Greg Laswell, GRAMMY® Award-Winning Artist Lucky Diaz, Caleb Nelson (Mt. Joy), Ryan Hughes, Daniel St. Black, Andy Toy, and Emmy Award-winning songwriter and producer Bobby Hartry.
Moon’s music has been featured on television and in movies: Grey’s Anatomy, The Young & The Restless, General Hospital, Hallmark Channel’s 12 Dates Till Christmas, Love Is Blind, Married at First Sight, Teen Mom, and, a short time ago, the trailer for the feature film Marked Men: Rule + Shaw.
“Father’s Daughter” rolls out on luminous tones, followed by transitioning to a delicious, swaying alt-country melody with hints of pop running through it. The rhythm section gives the tune a luscious flow. Moon’s vocals, evocative and oh-so silky, imbue the lyrics with crème de la crème nuances. It’s one of those voices that catches the attention immediately, alluring and pleasing.
With “Father’s Daughter,” Anna Moon + The Stars unveil a scrumptious alt-country song, one of the best of the year so far.
