Los Angeles-based multifaceted indie rock artist blondestandard unveils her new single, “NOT THE ONLY ONE,” a song about the emotional turmoil of being taken advantage of by someone you trusted.
blondestandard explains, “It’s about the frustration of being used—especially when you’re someone who leads with kindness and openness—only to realize too late that not everyone has your best interests at heart. It’s not easy to go through these experiences, but as much as they hurt, they also teach you invaluable lessons about boundaries, self-respect, and not letting people take your kindness for granted. I’ve found peace in being able to look back at those moments and realize that I’m better for having lived through them. The song isn’t just about the pain; it’s about acknowledging that pain, finding closure, and using it to grow.”
Often compared to Blondie and Gwen Stefani, blondestandard has been featured in elite media outlets, as well as appearing on Spotify’s New Music Friday. Her sound blends elements of alt-rock, pop, and funk, reflecting her diverse influences.
Hailing from Los Angeles, despite being diagnosed with cancer and going through a two-year span of treatment, blondestandard focused on writing and recording, immersing herself into music and developing her artistry.
According to blondestandard, her creative process “always begins with a story.” From there, she crafts the instrumental and fashions the melodies, followed by lyrics.
“NOT THE ONLY ONE” rolls out on a kaleidoscopic intro flowing into an alt-rock melody tinted with hints of pop energy. Dirty, growling-lite guitars infuse the tune with delicious, searing textures of Liz Phair-like flair as blondestandard’s evocative voice imbues the lyrics with revealing lambent tones elevating the feeling of the song.
