“Trace the Moon,” the new single from indie singer-songwriter Lindsay Jordan, sits at the junction of folk, rock, and Americana. For some reason, “Trace the Moon” summons up suggestions of Linda Ronstadt because of its wistful feel.
The song conveys the aching emotions of longing, self-reflection, and transformation. There’s an intimate vulnerability floating through the melody – a searching inner survey looking for something bigger and more significant.
While growing up, Jordan was influenced by artists like Janis Joplin, Alanis Morrisette, Pink, KT Tunstall, Sheryl Crow, and Melissa Etheridge. When she was six years old, she began singing and performing, becoming a full-time artist at the age of 21.
In 2021, Jordan released her debut EP. Silver Strings, after being invited to open for Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls. The following year saw her release her single, “New World,” a call for change and social justice.
Jordan released three singles in 2024, “Mr. Boss Man,” “Say Anything,” and “Dear Alice”, followed by “Always” at the beginning of 2025.
In 2024, Jordan put together her five-piece band, Lindsay Jordan & The Gypsies. Since then, the band has performed at a variety of venues such as The Stone Pony (Asbury Park, NJ), Bethlehem MusikFest (PA), The Bitter End (NYC), and has shared the stage with Lakes Street Dive.
Opening on a mid-tempo rhythm, “Trace the Moon” features glittering guitars forming an undulating, delicious melody. The dreamlike sensation of the harmonics creates a sense of imminence that’s infused with gentle elegance and profound emotions. Evocative harmonies surround Jordan’s alluring, complex vocals.
An impressive, articulate guitar solo imbues the tune with intense yearning, akin to passionate sonic punctuation marks addressed to the beckoning glow of the moon.
On “Trace the Moon,” Lindsay Jordan reveals the sublime gift of songwriting that makes the creative process sound easy.
