Music Video Premiere: Jules Unveils Liberating “Chakra”

“Chakra,” the new music video from Toronto artist Jules, is an alt-rock/pop song probing into toxic energy and those who interrupt positive vibes.

Directed by Caylamina Roberts and Jules, “Chakra” reflects Jules’ personal experiences, confronting the ego-driven behavior and demanding attitudes of those who bring negativity into our lives, offering a powerful message of empowerment and liberation, reminding listeners to stay true to themselves and shed the weight of toxic influences.

Talking about the song, Jules says, “My secret weapon is writing songs about the people that piss me off, and who knows, maybe this will be their favorite song! ‘Chakra’ is my way of reclaiming my energy and setting boundaries with those who try to bring me down.”

The video depicts a house party where guests are having a grand time, radiating positivity and happiness as they connect. And they’re doing it sans alcohol, which is why Sobrii sponsored the video.

Jules arrived on the scene in 2018, releasing her SOCAN and Top 40 charting hit “Before You Picked Her,” followed by her debut album, People Watching, featuring “Fool’s Gold.” In 2023, she released “Music Man” and “Judy” to widespread acclaim.

Jules has recorded with some of Canada’s finest such as producer Brian Moncarz, Dunkin Coutts, Jason Pierce, and Ben Healy. Early on in her career, Jules won a scholarship to attend the Berklee School of Music summer program, which catapulted her love for the art of creating music.

“Chakra” rolls out on plucking guitars as Jules’ swaggering vocals imbue the lyrics with audacious tones, at once feisty and roguish. Heavy, gleaming guitars infuse the chorus with hints of psych-rock and echoing resonance. A shimmering bridge shifts the harmonics and then ramps back up to full-fledged alt-rock edginess.

“Let me simplify it / I could use some peace and quiet / While your ego’s screaming way too loud / So you need to get out of my chakras / Get out of my chakras.

“Chakra” is a livewire track, full of wicked, proximate energy and the swanky snark of Jules’ brilliant allusions and turns of phrase.
