Product Review: La Bella Strings Vapor Shield Treated Strings

The La Bella string company has been around for 100 years, so it’s no surprise that they are an innovator in their industry. I had the chance to review their new, Vapor Shield guitar strings, and I was very impressed with them.

In reading the packaging, the process the strings go through is explained very scientifically. The process is called the Ionic Vapor process – a process created by Acoustic Science. Proprietary compounds are activated in a glow discharge electromagnetic plasma, modifying the strings entire surface. Once the process is complete the string is protected from oil, dirt, residue and tarnishing. This process also extends the life of the string – claiming to last 5x longer than untreated strings. Needless to say, this process is unlike any other in the industry.

So how does a electromagnetically modified string sound? I was really surprised at the level of brightness in the tone. I have used coated strings to find that the tone tends to be slightly muffled, but that was not the case with these scientifically modified strings. I have only been playing on them for a little over a week, but so far there is no flaking, or grime on them, and thanks to the process, that should never be a problem. The strings feel very smooth, even, and easy to play.

The strings came in a tin container, and the strings were packaged in a clear pouch full of Nitrogen to protect for corrosion. The Vapor Shield strings are available for electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and electric bass in various gauges.

La Bella has definitely gone above and beyond what has been the previous trends in the string market, and they have a great new product as a result of their innovative process. Be sure to visit www.labella.com for more product information and to locate a dealer near you.
