Georgia Webster pulls out her box of memories and shares them in the Official Music Video for single “Box of Memories”

The Hampden, MA, native country singer-songwriter caught the attention of TikTok users in 2020 with her single, “Tell Your Mom,” which became a viral hit and caught the attention of record labels in New York and Los Angeles. Georgia Webster decided to stay true to her roots and ended up working out of Nashville.

Inspired by the likes of Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, John Mayer, Keane, and even the Grateful Dead, Webster began her love for country-pop music while still in high school performing around her local community. Described as an “old soul,” Webster’s songwriting skills were honed by attending Berklee College of Music’s songwriters’ camps and “hours of listening to Josh Turner, Tyler Childers, and other acclaimed singer-songwriters.”

Webster shares with us her heartfelt songwriting skills in her single “Box of Memories” off of her EP First Goodbye.

Can you tell us a little about “Box of Memories” and the story behind the song?

Yes!! I wrote “Box of Memories” after I took out my actual box of memories one night and looked through it. I keep so many random things in my box and some of which are sort of bittersweet to look at, especially when you only look at them once every couple months or so.

Do you have a favorite part of the song or a favorite lyric?

I really like the bridge and the way it builds up in the song. I also like the last line, “and when I take it out, it messes with my head, but I do it anyways, so it all stays.” It’s like, even though some of those memories are sad, you still want to bring them back.

What was the inspiration behind the “Box Of Memories” music video?

“Box of Memories” (the song) is mainly centered around a relationship, and I wanted the video to be more about my family and childhood. A lot of the memories in my actual box of memories are cards from birthdays, things my grandparents got me, etc. I grew up living with my grandparents, and we’re all really close, and now that I moved away from home, those memories are really bittersweet as well.

All of the songs on your EP, First Goodbye, feel so personal and are so well written. What’s your songwriting process, and how do you bring those feelings/memories to life?

Thank you!! Honestly, I usually write my best songs when I have really strong emotions/feelings about something, and I just sit in my room alone like the stereotypical songwriter girl and do my thing. I was really emotional my last year of high school, especially since I knew I would be moving down to Nashville from Massachusetts, so these songs are definitely very special to me.

What are you most looking forward to while on tour with Ingrid Andress?

I’ve been a huge fan of Ingrid for a few years now, so getting to see her play is going to be so cool. I’m also really pumped about meeting people and just playing my first shows!!

What made you want to learn to play guitar and start writing your own songs?

My dad played guitar around the house growing up, and he taught me my first few chords, and then I started writing songs for school projects in like 4th grade. From there, I started writing about my life and relationships and stuff.

What is your go-to guitar?

My Collings C10 is my go-to!! I really love Collings Guitars, and I’ve had this parlor-sized one for a while now; it’s pretty small, which is why I love it for me.

What is your advice for young women who hope to work in the music industry?

My advice would be to not give up and follow your dreams!! I know it’s cliché, but my dad has told me that my entire life, and he’s always said if you love something and work hard for it, you’ll succeed no matter what. And why would you want to do something your whole life that you don’t even like?
