Harmony reveals new semi-hollow in its popular American-made standard series: The Harmony Comet

KALAMAZOO, MI; – Following the prototype preview earlier this year at NAMM, Harmony (www.harmony.co) today announced the next addition to their Standard Series: the Harmony Comet will be shipping this November. Proudly made in the USA, the all-new Harmony Comet is a modern take on the iconic 1960’s Harmony H-72 and marks the brand’s first semi-hollow body guitar with set neck design since its return in 2017.

The Comet’s familiar double-cutaway semi-hollow design boasts many of the Standard Series’ key features like Harmony’s proprietary gold foil pickups, hardware, premium woods and MONO Vertigo case, but also introduces new developments that are unique to the model.

The model sports an immaculately carved genuine mahogany top and back for a warm, well-rounded and acoustic-like tone. The smaller, contoured body along with the C shape neck profile, 25″ scale length, and 12-inch radius ebony fretboard, gives the Comet a broad, player-friendly appeal. The Master volume has been designed with a push/pull pot which allows players to engage incredible out-of-phase sounds. The headstock’s 6-in-line tuner design is also a nod towards the original H-72’s unusual, but iconic look. The Comet comes in three striking finishes: Midnight Blue, Trans Red and Sunburst.

Harmony Guitars invited Curt Chambers (video here) and Dr Molly Miller (video here) to trial the Harmony Comet ahead of its launch.

Curt Chambers says, “I was amazed at how fast I was able to connect with this guitar, the guitar is immensely playable and innately connects with my personal characteristics as a player. The Harmony complements two things I love: I like to play a lot of chords and for them to feel full. When I play this guitar I appreciate how full the neck pickup is. The second thing I love about it is that it switches really well to the bridge pickup. You can switch smoothly between the two characters if you will… with the right overdrive pedal you get a full break up the tone from the amp and it sounds really soulful and sweet to me. From chordal soulful pieces to spacey blues playing, this guitar can do it all.”

– Curt Chambers is a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, producer, and guitarist, who has played with musical legends such as BB King, and Jerry Douglas as well as rock and hip hop icons Alicia Keys, Travis Barker, P. Diddy, Dr. Dre, Eminem, the legendary LL Cool J along with Country Stars, Chris Young, Florida Georgia Line, Tyler Rich, Jake Owen, Dustin Lynch and many more.

Dr Molly Miller says, “When I pick up the Harmony Comet, it feels good and it’s easy to play. When looking for a guitar I want to make sure it sounds great, but another big part is how it looks… you know, I’m wearing it on stage! This guitar has both those things going on. The sustain is awesome, which might have something to do with the set neck, it’s really cool because the note rings. Versatility and sound is something that really draws me to the guitar. I think often an instrument might only sound good on one pick up – but the fact that you have options on the Comet is a big draw. The front pick up you get a rounder, warmer sound. On the back pick up there’s a lot more of a punch. It’s brighter and you get more of a bite. ”

– Dr Molly Miller is one of Los Angeles’s most sought-after musicians, recording and touring with artists such as Jason Mraz, Black Eyed Peas, Donna Missal, and Morgxn. She has been the Chair of the Guitar Department at Los Angeles College of Music since 2016 The Comet is shipping this November and available at $1,499 (MAP) via select dealers. Visit www.harmony.co.
