Supro Launches the Galaxy Multi-Channel Tube Overdrive Amplifier

June 20, 2019 (Port Jefferson, NY) – Supro is announcing their most versatile amp to date with the introduction of the Galaxy head and combo along with companion 1×12 and 4×12 halfback extension cabinets.

The Galaxy is a 50-watt channel-switching tube amp, designed to deliver more clean tone and more tube overdrive than any Supro ever made. The Galaxy amplifier combines the cleanest Supro preamp channel from our pedal-friendly Keeley model, with a Zinky-designed overdrive channel that has more than enough gain to seamlessly transition from the edge of breakup into complex tube saturation and sustain—without sacrificing dynamics or losing tonal balance at stage volume. The unique gain structure, world-class reverb, advanced switching options and low-impedance FX loop capabilities found in the Galaxy deliberately move Supro into the realm of boutique American tube amps, pioneered by Randall Smith, Paul Rivera and Alexander Dumble.

The Galaxy Clean channel is optimized for clean tone and maximum headroom. This pristine preamp delivers warm, balanced tone that can get very loud without distorting. The crystal-clear sound of the Galaxy is specifically designed for players who want to use effects pedals and drop-tuned guitars while retaining a firm, fat bottom punch and crystal-clear top end across the entire fretboard. The Galaxy Overdrive channel comes fully loaded with independent Gain, 3-band EQ and Master Volume controls that allow precise frequency contouring and level matching with the robust clean channel. The result of a decade-long collaboration between Supro president David Koltai and legendary tube amp designer Bruce Zinky, the Galaxy Overdrive channel uses multiple cascaded tube stages to deliver a wide-open lead tone with more available gain than any other Supro.

The Galaxy amplifier’s all-tube signal path includes footswitchable solo boost. The tube-driven, six-spring reverb in the Galaxy amplifier is assignable to either one or both channels. A dedicated dwell control for the overdrive channel is located on the rear panel, allowing for preset attenuation of the signal feeding the reverb pan when the overdrive channel is turned on. An all-tube FX loop stage provides a perfectly buffered signal to interact optimally with stompboxes, multi-effects and modern switching systems that require the 4-cable method for inserting time-based effects in between the preamp and power amp stages of the Supro Galaxy.

The Supro Galaxy is available as 1×12 combo or compact head dressed in tuxedo-black leatherette tolex with matching 1×12 and 4×12 half-back extension cabinet options. Premium, Eminence CV75 Redcoat speakers have been specially selected for the Galaxy model for their exceptional performance across all genres of music: from crystal-clear ethereal cleans to dirty blues to the heaviest low-tuned riffs.

Features:

  • 2-channel, all-tube design
  • High-headroom Clean channel
  • Overdrive channel with 3-band EQ
  • Master volume on Overdrive channel only
  • Switchable boost works on both channels
  • All-tube buffered effects loop
  • Wattage: 50 watts Class AB
  • Speaker: 1×12” Eminence CV75
  • Assembled in New York, USA

The Supro 1777 Galaxy 4×12 Extension cabinet uses an oversized, “half-back” design with a partially open, angled top section sitting above an isolated, closed-back bottom. This hybrid design delivers the recording versatility and tonal balance of a vintage-flavored open-back top section, along with massive thump and low-end punch from the sealed lower section. The Galaxy 4×12 extension cabinet features switchable mono (8-ohm) or stereo/bi-amp (16-ohm) operation for use as independent open and closed 2×12 sections connected to multiple heads. The Supro Galaxy 4×12 comes loaded with Eminence CV75 speakers and is rated at 300W in mono or 150W per side in stereo. The CV75 speaker was selected to be used in the Galaxy series for its distinctive British tone that absolutely nails the sound of the most coveted, UK-made V30 speakers from the early 80s.

The Supro 1797 1×12 Galaxy Extension cabinet is designed to serve as an ideal match for the channel-switching Galaxy head or combo amplifier. Dressed in black leatherette tolex and sized to fit perfectly underneath a head or combo, the 1×12 Galaxy Extension cabinet uses a partially open-back design that is directly based on the dimensions of Jimmy Page’s late-50’s modified Supro Coronado, which was used to record the Led Zeppelin I album. The Galaxy 1×12 extension cabinet comes loaded with a 75W, British-voiced, Eminence CV75 driver.

The Galaxy heads, combos and cabinets are now shipping. The head retails for $1,299 USD, the combo is $1,499, the 4×12 is $999 and the 1×12 is $499.
