Mon Laferte Nominated for ‘Song of the Year’ for Latin GRAMMY Awards

New York, NY (September 20, 2022) – Mon Laferte was nominated this morning by the Latin Recording Academy® for “Algo Es Mejor” in the Song of the Year category at the 23rd Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards. “Algo Es Mejor” was the first single from Laferte’s second album of 2021,1940 Carmen.

“I wrote this song while driving through Malibu, with all the hope of getting pregnant,” Laferte said. “I was thrilled to be brave and pursue motherhood. The Pacific Ocean always inspires me. California landscapes are a lot like my hometown. As I looked out the window, I felt so free! So full and happy! Life is beautiful; I often think it’s just a matter of attitude. Something in me definitely changed.”

1940 Carmen was written and recorded while she was in Los Angeles from March to July 2021, and named after the address of the Airbnb where she stayed. All of the tracks were written, composed, and produced by Mon and include her first foray into singing in English. 1940 Carmen is a snapshot of four months in her life in the US, which resulted in a new album, a national tour of the US, and a pregnancy.

1940 Carmen followed Mon Laferte’s GRAMMY-nominated album SEIS, which was highlighted in the ‘Best of 2021’ lists by The New York TimesRolling StoneNPR MusicBillboardLA Times, and The Nation.

The Latin Recording Academy® will host the 23rd annual ceremony of the Latin GRAMMY Awards on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The broadcast will air on Univision at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific (7 p.m. Central).

2022 has been one of Mon Laferte’s most successful years with sold-out international performances through multiple cities in the United States, Mexico, Spain, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, and Peru.
