Mon Laferte Releases New Single “Supermercado”

New York, NY (June 9, 2022) – Mon Laferte released today her new single “Supermercado“, another highlight of her recent latest album, 1940 Carmen.

1940 Carmen was Mon’s second album of 2021, written and recorded while she was in Los Angeles from March to July 2021, and named after the address of the Airbnb where she stayed. The album is a snapshot of four intense months in her life.

The supermarket aisle is like the mass transit of life. On good or bad days, you have to go along for the ride to get to the next stop. “I got mad at my partner at the supermarket and wrote the song while I was there,” says Mon on the track.

The video was filmed on 16MM in a self-service store, shot and directed by the Chilean filmmaker Camila Grandi. It is inspired by one of the chapters of the film Nine Lives by the Colombian Rodrigo García Barcha. In Nine Lives, “An ex-couple meets after many years of not seeing each other in a supermarket,” says Grandi. “It is fascinating because a majorly complex conflict takes place in an everyday context and space. I love Mon, she has a lot of strength and I’m a big fan of her. She has trusted my work a lot, which has allowed me to create and be free.”

Mon Laferte was recently nominated for a GRAMMY® Award for “Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Includes Tejano)” for her early 2021 album SEIS, where she gave a breathtaking performance, praised by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and The New York Times, who named it as one of the ‘Best Moments From The GRAMMYs’. Mon Laferte will begin her tour of Mexico later this month, followed by dates in Spain between August and September.
