Tai Shan’s New Single Inspires Hope Amid Adversity

NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville-based, folk/pop indie artist Tai Shan released her new single “Trying Times” on Friday, February 18, 2022. Produced by Mark Blasco, a Seattle-based producer and collaborator, “Trying Times” is available on most streaming services.

Trying Times was written by Shan and reflects on the adversity she faced during the pandemic as a new mom. With her tour canceled, Shan and her husband/duo partner Austin Garrison lost a significant source of their income. During this overwhelmingly stressful time for her new family, Shan also lost her uncle to COVID-19.

“I remember being overwhelmed with grief and mourning his death,” said Shan. “Along my drive home, I saw a small sign in a church parking lot that read ‘trying times don’t mean that you stop trying.’ The line knocked me over because as a parent of a young kid with no local help or family, I was beyond exhausted, fatigued and sad at the state we were in.”

Shan says she wants the song to inspire her listeners to keep trying and make tomorrow better in spite of their struggles.

“It was a lonely existence raising a new soul alongside a new threatening virus.” Said Shan. “Questions like ‘will she ever have friends’ and late-night scrolling through COVID infection google searches were a constant. The lyrics of “Trying Times” have helped me cope, and I hope it can do the same for others.

“Trying Times” is a sequel to Shan’s last release “Change the World Together” which celebrated when adults became eligible for Covid-19 vaccination. This summer, Shan will resume touring the United States with outdoor shows at wineries, breweries and house concerts.
