September 22, 2023 (New York, NY) – Jullian Records recording artist, and singer-songwriter Emily Kinney today releases her highly anticipated new album Swimteam along with a companion video for her song, “B or C for Effort”.
The video perfectly showcases Emily’s lilting vocals, piercing lyrics along with her ability to take us through the dreamscape of a performance allowing her to heal after she ends a relationship.
Though the pop tinged/folk inspired record contemplates throwing in the towel in uphill battles around work and love, Swimteam is ultimately about making peace with both journeys through music. In talking about the new LP, Emily says, “It’s really a breakup album. My last LP Supporting Character was much more about my artistic spiritual life, but this one, Swimteam explores relationships and delves into the emotional life of a person when shame and embarrassment appear.”
In further celebration of the release of Swimteam, Emily will appear at two album release shows, the first being September 24 at Lodge Room in Los Angeles, CA followed by a performance on October 8 at City Winery in New York, NY. Tickets are on sale now.
Emily’s 2023 singles “Walkin Round Your Dreams”, “False Start”, “B or C For Effort” and “Broken Air Conditioning” were met with praise from media outlets including Forbes, Consequence, Hollywood Life, Sweety High, and Entertainment Tonight.

Emily continues to make inroads as she seamlessly bridges between her life as an actor and her passion for her music. “My relationship to being an actor is very similar to some kinds of romantic relationships where I feel like acting is kind of like a bad boyfriend,” Kinney says, “With acting, someone has to pick you; you’re a hired gun. For me, music is a place where I get to own what I’m doing. I get to be the decision maker.”
As a beloved main character in the iconic TV show The Walking Dead, as well as her roles in DC’s The Flash and Arrow, Masters of Sex, Conviction, and many others Emily made an impact with fans worldwide as she expertly navigated being successful in both acting and music. Her experience in acting continued to fuel her lifelong passion for songwriting and music. This new collection of songs is the result of that inspiration.
