War Stories is the raucous evening of off-the cuff and intimate storytelling series by punk rock’s seminal founders – the wildest, loudest and most influential punk rock, new wave and rock’n’roll icons to this day.

Who are they?
She is a guitar player and songwriter in the world’s most successful female band and he is the front man of a string of seminal bands in punk rock and invented cow punk. Then there’s their Grammy-nominated troubadour pal…  The GoGo’s Jane Wiedliln, The Dils’ Chip Kinman and Peter Case (The Nerves, The Plimsouls) either now or once called San Francisco their home base.  They’re joining some more of their punk era friends to share their War Stories in an intimate night club setting.

What can you expect?
Three of the story tellers on the San Francisco War Stories panel – Chip Kinman, Jane Wiedlin and Pleasant Gehman –  have chapters in the just-published anthology “More Fun in the New World: The Unmaking and Legacy of L.A. Punk,” the follow-up to celebrated  “Under the Big Black Sun” by John Doe and Tom DeSavia.  The trio will reveal extended details and more stories from what they shared in the book, and there will be copies available to purchase and have signed.

About the War Stories series:
Each War Stories event is specially curated and presented by Pleasant Gehman and Theresa Kereakes — the duo behind the 70’s LA punk rock fanzine, Lobotomy.   Every person on stage is either a Native Californian or has a  Bay Area connection, and all the musicians performed in San Francisco regularly “back in the day” at venues such as Mabuhay Gardens, Berkeley Square, The Farm, The Covered Wagon, The Sound Of Music, The Deaf Club and Gilman Street.

War Stories, a spoken word/storytelling memoir and free-for-all, takes place the night before Chip Kinman, co-founder of The Dils (with late brother Tony) perform a punk rock tribute to the revered punk venue Temple Beautiful, making for a maximum punk rock weekend.

War Stories is moderated by local journalist and author, Michelle Villegas Threadgould, who is a regular contributor at KQED, CNN, New York Observer & author of the forthcoming book “Why Rage Against the Machine Matters”
