Writer, television producer and singer-songwriter Tracy Newman pays homage to the legendary Merle Haggard who celebrates his 76th birthday today with her song “Table Nine” which she wrote based on a friend’s experience with Haggard. “Table Nine” is a track from her album “I Just See You” by Tracy Newman and the Reinforcements.
Tracy was inspired to write the song after meeting a young girl after one of her shows who had no idea who Frank Sinatra was. Newman was saddened at the thought that her musical hero Merle Haggard could suffer the same fate, that people would know nothing of an artist that she values so deeply, the “Oke from Muskkogee.”
