While at Winter NAMM in January [2018], I ran across the “Rocking Around the Clock booth,” and Ukulele Ray was there with some of his products and his student prodigy Keona Lee (featured in this edition) and I unfortunately missed seeing her perform.

Ray is the author of Ukulele for Guitar Players along with Jessie Stokes and Tommie Victor, and the book was released back in 2010, but I thought I would check it out since I had just met him and was doing this Mighty Uke issue. It sparked my interest because a lot of guitar players like to pick up the uke and play around.

Ukulele for Guitar Players is a cool little tool that comes in handy for those wanting a quick and easy guide to get them on the right path to playing the uke. It comes with a book full of diagrams and chord charts with instructions on tuning and strumming, and a CD with 14 songs like “Folsom Prison Blues, “Hound Dog,” “Twist and Shout,” and so many more.

Sadly, Sharry R. Han, aka Ukulele Ray, passed away on April 6, 2018, in California.
