Jane Doe Unveils New Single/Music Video “Dig a Grave”

Left coast rock outfit Jane Doe releases their new single/music video, “Dig a Grave,” the band’s third single from their upcoming second album, Found, set to drop this summer.

“Dig a Grave” narrates the attempts by artists to create their ‘magnum opus,’ not realizing that the effort to produce a song equal to Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” or Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” frequently ends in dismal, demoralizing failure.

Definitely not your average band, Jane Doe’s frontwoman Izzy Kay exhibits an array of attributes: defiance, strong opinions, high intelligence, and compassion, along with a muscular, snarling voice akin to Joan Jett crossed with Hayley Williams.

In 2019, Jane Doe released their debut album, Identified, which was mastered by the renowned Howie Weinberg. Identified featured tracks such as “Final Line,” “Scab,” and “Scar Territory.”

The video for “Dig a Grave,” directed by Jane Doe’s frontwoman, Izzy Kay and her father, was inspired by the noir connotations and scathing sarcasm of Stanley Kubrick. Set in an opulent mansion decked out in white flowers and white furniture gilded in gold, the band plays their instruments amid the glitz as Jane Doe belts out the lyrics. In the end, a sheet covered body lies on the dining table with a toe tag that reads “Jane Doe.”

“Dig a Grave” opens on grunge-laced guitars riding powerfully rumbling percussion, giving the rhythm a portentous flow. Jane Doe’s vocals, dark and smoky, yet potently piercing, imbue the lyrics with blistering timbres. It’s one of those wickedly Siren-like voices boosted with steroidal oomph and walloping punch. Izzy Kay’s voice is one of the best around – intense, balanced, and compelling.

With “Dig a Grave,” Jane Doe stands out in the new generation of bands, pumping out monster waves of mind-blowing grunge.
