Product Review: iRig Pro I/O

The handy iRig Pro I/O from IK Multimedia is a pocket-sized, full featured audio and MIDI interface that has a solid feel and sturdy construction.  It’s sleek black frame looks great next to my iPhone.  Having grown up recording with 4 track recorders and then transitioning into Pro Tools, it’s amazing to see and work with such a tiny, yet powerful, portable recording device.

iRig Pro I/O boxLike all IK Multimedia products, the packaging looks great and compliments the product very well.  In addition to the device, it comes with all the cables and accessories needed to work with iOS or Android.iRig Pro I/O Out of the Box

What I like most about the iRig Pro is that it handles everything in my studio: microphones, guitars, keyboards, and MIDI.  It’s extremely versatile and immediately begins to work as soon as it is plugged in.  It has the ability to pass phantom power and comes with 24-bit conversion at up to 96kHz.  Amazingly there is almost no noticeable latency.  There is a headphone monitor jack with individual volume control along with input gain volume control.

Wanting to test the MIDI input with my keyboard, I was happy to see that it was just as easy to connect as a guitar or microphone.

Overall this device was fun to use, easy to understand, and versatile with all of my current gear.  The quality is good and makes for recording some quick demos on the spot.  It’s not going to replace high-end recording gear, but I’ve found it very easy to keep this on me and quickly start recording in any location.
