Cat Clyde Announces ‘Live at Rare Bird Farm: A Benefit Album for Western North Carolina’

Following a weekend of sold-out concerts this past July at the dreamy Rare Bird Farm set in the Appalachian Mountains outside of Asheville, NC, Canadian indie-folk artist Cat Clyde has announced the release of a Limited Edition Benefit Vinyl and Digital Pre-order available only on Bandcamp, Live at Rare Bird Farm: A Benefit Album for Western North Carolina. Launched on Giving Tuesday and just before Bandcamp Friday on Dec. 6th, 100% of proceeds from this album will be donated to regional organization Bounty & Soul who has been providing food and supplies to areas hit hard by Hurricane Helene. The live album, pressed at Citizen Vinyl in Asheville, NC, features solo performances of songs from Cat’s previous full-length albums “Down Rounder” and “Hunters Trance”, an A capella cover of “Been Drinking” by Vera Hall, and a brand new, exclusive tune that Cat has been debuting at live shows, “Where Is My Love”. Today Cat provides a taste of what to expect of the album by sharing a live guitar version of her song “I Feel It”, which was filmed at Rare Bird Farm’s Tug Fork Barn on July 13, 2024. A note from Cat Clyde:

“This summer, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, I had the pleasure of performing at Rare Bird farm. Pulling into the property I was welcomed and held by the big hills and cool creek.  Farrah and Mitchell, owners and caretakers of the land had arranged for me to perform looking out into the big hills tucked into the open barn whilst the audience sat on blankets with tea, and dogs roamed and played.  We recorded the set as the sun fell behind the hills.

My time in Western North Carolina, driving through the winding roads and witnessing the beautiful forests, swimming in the rivers, and walking the trails held great beauty and magic for me.  There lives in this space a community that cultivates and calls in deep appreciation for sharing music and keeping Appalachian traditions alive.

Returning in autumn, I was able to witness the devastation and aftermath left over from Hurricane Helene.  The old river, and big winds destroying homes, buildings, roads, and anything else laid in the path.  The resilience and coming together of the community was inspiring after such destruction.  I wanted to share this recorded performance, captured in the Blue Ridge mountains to contribute to hurricane relief for the people and community of Western North Carolina.  I am grateful for my time spent there, and hope that the people of this beautiful area can continue to work with one another to rebuild and grow again.”
