“‘Better Kind of Love (Silver Lining)’ is probably my first successful attempt at incorporating humor into heartbreak. I remember when Phoebe Bridgers Stranger in the Alps came out, and I was so struck by not only her voice, but how hilarious she was. I wanted to challenge myself to write something with a sense of humor. This song is about embracing and laying bare the fact that we do things (like smoke cigarettes) that are not good for us, and love people we know are ultimately not right for us, but to be a little easier on ourselves about it because ultimately the bad choices help us discover how to make better ones.”

The new track follows the previously released single “Sunbeam,” which arrived alongside the album announcement and is featured in a just released music video. Shot on location through the coast of Bellingham, WA, Cumulus finds love by way of her college town and its eccentric characters and verdant scenery. Speaking on the “Sunbeam” music video, Lockhart says, “This is a song about the realization that when you do meet the right person, it’s not complicated. It’s easy. It’s not that it doesn’t take hard work, but it doesn’t feel like work… Maybe the plot gets a little lost, maybe it’s strange to think of two strangers meeting at a driftwood elephant’s rear end, but at the end of the day – I think it just captures joy, love, and the beauty of the Northwest.”
