Multi-dimensional dark alternative singer-songwriter D’Arcy shares her new single, “when i can’t sleep…,” which follows on the heels of her previous single, “baby i love you <3,” and last year’s debut album, The Art of Flying.

D’Arcy explains, “I wrote this song at 5 AM when I couldn’t sleep. There was something magical about creating music in the early morning stillness. I finished the production within 20 minutes and recorded the vocals properly later on. The vocal demo was me just whispering into the computer, so I didn’t wake anyone up.”

Released at the end of 2022, D’Arcy’s debut album, The Art of Flying, attracted beaucoup attention from listeners and the media. Kaltblut called the album “scary good,” and Ladygunn said it was “one of the best albums I’ve heard all year.” Grimy Goods praised her as “spellbinding,” in a review of her sold-out show at Los Angeles’ legendary Fonda Theatre.

Along with performing more than 80 shows across the U.S., sharing the stage with bands such as She Wants Revenge and Lee DeWyze, D’Arcy also DJs techno and house music, setting dance floors on fire at New York City venues like Good Room, Le Bain, and Public.

“when i can’t sleep…” rolls out on low-slung swirling surfaces, drenched in rippling shadows and gently undulating textures. A slow, pulsing rhythm highlighted by a thick bassline infuses the tune with a drifting sensation as D’Arcy’s dreamy vocals imbue the lyrics with delicious otherworldly timbres as if floating through a fog of profound emotions.

“I will love you through it all / You could tell me anything / I wouldn’t love you any less / Deeper into you I’d fall / Fall into me my love / Let your heart quiet down / You say that I am stillness / Let me be the silence in your sound.”

Visceral and affecting, hypnotic and fluid, the measured flow of “when i can’t sleep…” allows listeners to bask in the entrancing voice of D’Arcy.
