Taylor Mecca Releases Poignant New Single “Growing Up Sucks”

New York-based pop singer-songwriter and social media influencer Taylor Mecca drops her brand-new single, “Growing Up Sucks,” the first from her EP, Sidelines, a five-track exploration of the emotional challenges coming-of-age poses.

Taylor explains, “Growing up in my childhood home, seeing my friends move away, feeling frustrated and impatient with myself. Life feels as if it’s moving too quickly for me to keep up but standing still at the same time. I realized that I was facing the frustrating feeling of growing up as an adult in the same environment I was raised in. We all look forward to growing up, but when it comes around, it just feels more confusing and terrifying than we expect.”

Known for her visceral, cathartic sound, Taylor began her career when she was 15 years old. Since then, she has released a series of imaginative singles, including “Insecure Narcissist,” “Sigma Chi,” “I Don’t Think Ur Sorry,” and “Empty Promises.”

Along with being featured on Spotify’s Fresh Finds playlist, Taylor has amassed a huge social media following: 1.3 million followers on TikTok and more than 65,000 followers on Instagram.

“Growing Up Sucks” opens with a low-slung acoustic guitar topped by Taylor’s evocative vocals, at once slightly melancholic and nostalgic. It’s one of those deluxe voices that are immediately mesmerizing, nuanced by silky, elegant timbres while dripping with profound emotion.

On the chorus, the tune swells with resonance, depth, and dimension as Taylor imbues the lyrics with poignant flavors and alluring coloration. Ebbing and rising on tender sonic layers, the melody sways and glides on sensitive surfaces.

Simmering with dreamy, contemporary pop savors, “Growing Up Sucks” allows listeners to luxuriate in the exquisite voice of Taylor Mecca.
