Jordana Bryant: New Single “Romeo” is a Modern Fairytale

As seen in Guitar Girl Magazine Issue 21 – Fall 2022

Jordana Bryant is an up-and-coming country artist, having smash singles such as “Guilty” and her latest single, “Romeo.” Bryant is making strides in the scene, having just signed a record deal with Riser House Entertainment, and she is working alongside giants in the industry, such as Roman White (videographer for Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift). She has accrued a massive following on social media, with 175K followers on Instagram alone.

Her upbeat personality and drive to make music that will inspire and empower are just a few reasons why fans have fallen in love with rising star Jordana Bryant.

You just released your single “Romeo.” What do you want your audience to take away from this single, and what was the message behind the song?

I wrote “Romeo” as a more modern take on a fairytale love. I think a lot of girls can relate to wanting to be in a relationship — but not needing someone to save or protect them — which is the opposite of practically every fairytale in the past. In Sleeping Beauty, the prince saves her. In Cinderella, the prince saves her. In Snow White, the prince saves her. See a pattern here? 😉 So, I wanted to write a song about the type of love I want, where the girl doesn’t have to be a damsel in distress to find love and create something that hopefully resonates with a lot of girls! And I hope girls who listen to “Romeo” take away that they can be strong and independent and still find love!!

You just landed a record deal with Riser House Entertainment; how does that feel for you? How has having them along for the ride been so far?

It’s been so awesome working with Riser House. Everyone is so nice there, and it means so much to me that I have a team behind me that believes in me and the music I want to make.

Your label debut, “Guilty,” has reached an astounding amount of streams already. How do you feel about that?!

It’s been so amazing to see how “Guilty” has been resonating with people. “Guilty” has such a special place in my heart because it’s just such an upbeat and positive song, and that’s such a big part of who I am as a person and an artist, so it’s meant so much to me to see that people are really liking it and relating to it!

We are Guitar Girl, so we like to know about how you began to play guitar and if you have a favorite.

I love playing guitar! Growing up, my dad played lead guitar in a bunch of country-rock bands, so I would always hear him play it around the house. When I was 10, I got a guitar for Christmas, and he started teaching me how to play. I’ve been obsessed ever since! 😉 My favorite guitar I have would probably be my Taylor GS Mini-e Koa — I just love the sound it has and how it’s three-quarters size, so it makes it super easy to travel with!

What has your experience being a woman in the music industry been like? It is not always easy, and this is a question I always like to add because it is not the easiest journey.

There are definitely challenges, but I feel really grateful for women like Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire, who came before me and truly paved the way for women in country music. They’ve made it possible for girls like me to chase our dreams, and without people like them, I know this road would be infinitely harder. They definitely inspired me to chase my dream of being a singer-songwriter and taught me to never give up on that dream, no matter what adversity I face.

You got to work with Roman White, who directed the videos for Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” and Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” Tell us more about that!

It was such a surreal experience working with Roman. He’s obviously incredibly talented, but he’s also super funny, so it was such a blast getting to shoot the music video for “Guilty” with him. He was so awesome about listening to my ideas for the video and helping to bring them to life. I’m so happy with how everything turned out and so grateful to have gotten to work with Roman and the entire team that was part of the “Guilty” music video shoot.

What is next for Jordana Bryant?

I’m working on a bunch of new music that I’m going to be releasing really soon, and I might even be putting something out for the holidays, so stay tuned!!!
