Opening reception and book signing to feature stunning photography of famous rock star guitars, live music, music-themed refreshments and desserts, and more

August 13, 2015, Los Angeles – 108 Rock Star Guitars author and photographer Lisa S. Johnson  has partnered with the ultimate lifestyle shopping destination RONROBINSON in Santa Monica, Calif., to host a guitar-themed reception and book signing on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 from 5 – 8 p.m.  Featuring Johnson’s stunning original photography showcasing the instruments of guitar gods like Jimmy Page, Slash, Carlos Santana and more, the opening reception is open to the public and free of charge.

DJ Apollo Starr will provide music by spinning classic rock music by guitarists featured in 108 Rock Star Guitars. Additionally, guitar-themed refreshments brought by Wines That Rock, and a Jimmy Page Gibson SG EDS 1275 double-neck cake by renowned bakery Brie Darling Cakes (formerly Cakesheads L.A.) will be served.

108 Rock Star Guitars is an embossed, red leatherette book by photographer and author Lisa S. Johnson launched in 2013 (hardcover) and 2014 (softcover). Both books are 396 pages containing 486 gorgeous color images on high-quality paper using a six-color printing process. Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, Nancy Wilson, Bonnie Raitt, Slash, Carlos Santana, Jack White, Ronnie Wood, Lou Reed, Ace Frehley, Billy Gibbons, Don Felder, Joe Walsh, Robby Krieger, Willie Nelson, Johnny Winter, and Les Paul, who also wrote the foreword, are among the rock stars whose instruments are featured. The book has recently garnered the prestigious Silver Graphis Award, and American Photo magazine named it one of the “Best Photo Books of the Year” for 2013. Brian Setzer called it, “The classiest guitar book I have ever seen.”  

Ron Robinson began his Los Angeles retail career in the late 1960’s, and in 1978, RONROBINSON, Inc. opened its doors at Fred Segal on Melrose Avenue. With the store’s reputation for a curated selection of high-quality merchandise and outstanding service, RONROBINSON captured a quintessentially California aesthetic and quickly became a Los Angeles retail icon and destination for musicians and stars such as Elton John, Janis Joplin, and the Beach Boys. In November of 2014, Ron Robinson opened a 5,500 square foot, free-standing, open-concept storefront in Santa Monica. The eponymous store, features a unique shopping experience, with the same expertly selected home goods, men and women’s apparel, books, jewelry, and beauty accessories. RONROBINSON continues to reinvent the concept of a retail environment and regularly hosts diverse collaborations with Southern California based artists, musicians, and designers.

The opening reception will take place Thursday, September 3, from 5 – 8 p.m., and the exhibit will run through Saturday, October 10, 2015 at RONROBINSON, located at 1327 Fifth Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401.

Johnson grew up in an artistic family, where she fell in love with melody and imagery and pursued a career in photography.  After a successful 10-year stint working at Eastman Kodak, she met the owner of a vintage guitar shop in Memphis, Tenn., and began exclusively photographing guitars.
