Her songs are not the immediate sort; rather they slowly envelop the listener like a dense mountain fog on a humid Tennessee morning

Erin Rae writes songs about letting go of lovers and thoughts that weigh you down, embracing contentment and recognizing the small moments that add up to the grand scheme.  –  Lars Gotrich

““Bad Mind,” inspired by an aunt declared an unfit parent “just because she had a woman for a lover in ’98” and the way history still haunts anyone questioning their sexuality.” “No matter where or when you’re listening, a hazy summer of the mind arises from the cozy instrumentation and Erin Rae’s thoughtful voice.”

“You feel this is her time to crest.”

“Another very perceptive lyricist and skilled Americana songwriter.”

“A Song for You When You Feel Like Going Back to Your Old Ways.”

Thursday July 18 – Aquarium Drunkard today released a new EP in collaboration with indie folk singer-songwriter Erin Rae who released a collection of performances of unique covers including Gene Clark’s “Some Misunderstanding”, “As We Go Along” (written by Carole King and performed by The Monkees), Jonathan Richman’s “You Must Ask The Heart” and Scott Walker’s “Duchess.” The Lagniappe Session EP showcases Rae’s remarkable vocal and genre-bending ability to reinterpret classic psych-rock and folk sounds with a modern indie-rock mindset.

Aquarium Drunkard stated, “Erin Rae writes and performs folk music. Folk music highlighted by supremely elegant singing and rich lyrical imagery. Her songs are not the immediate sort; rather they slowly envelop the listener like a dense mountain fog on a humid Tennessee morning. Her work is nothing if not sturdy; classic stories and melodies that will be around long after the big machine has washed away, when we’re all back to just playing music for one another.”

Discussing her version of Gene Clark’s “Some Misunderstanding” (which is now also available via Youtube) Erin Rae stated, “Very recently I came across Gene Clark’s record “No Other” and immediately connected with this song while I was making some decisions about business and life. I feel like I might be a kindred spirit to Gene. His songs just really hit home and describe specific feelings that I’ve had.”

NPR Music also recently dropped a Tiny Desk Concert and described her music as “folkloric psychedelia” and “deeply personal songwriting that hits hard two, three listens in.” Watch it here

The release follows her critically acclaimed record, Putting On Airs, which earned respect of Jenny Lewis, Iron And Wine, Father John Misty, Jason Isbell as well as Hiss Golden Messenger and Dylan LeBlanc who she joins on tour this summer. Erin will also perform at Newport Folk Festival, Nashville’s Live On The Green, Mountain Stage and at Americanafest in Nashville in September. Erin recently received a nomination for Best Emerging Act Of The Year at the 2019 Americana Music Honors and Awards. For more information click here.
