With her full-band tour supporting S. Carey underway, H.C. McEntire thought it was a perfect time to unveil her music video for “One Great Thunder” off January’s LIONHEART! Shot while McEntire was in Los Angeles playing solo dates, it shows the North Carolinian bringing some calming Southern vibes to the metropolis that surrounds her. H.C. and I met in the fall of 2016 while in London performing together for a Raincoats + Angel Olsen collaborative concert. We decided immediately that we had to work together more in the near future.

We randomly ran into each other while she was in Los Angeles this spring and decided to make an impulsive video for LIONHEART. From the point of us deciding to do it, up until the final edit, we just let it be what it was: a creative idea reflective solely of this unplanned moment, all completed in a 24-hour period.

“One Great Thunder” is also my favorite song that H.C. has written. For me, it brews deeply in the feeling of loss, best described by Laurie Anderson as “to live in the gap between the moment that is expiring and the one that is arising.”

McEntire is touring with S. Carey through July 24 and wraps up summer with full-band shows supporting Pedro the Lion. She was recently announced as opening support on the Hopscotch main stage with Real Estate and The Flaming Lips, and will also make appearances at Nashville’s Americanafest and a trio of shows with Amy Ray in October. After a short break, McEntire returns to Europe in November for a solo tour with Natalie Prass. Don’t miss your opportunity to catch these songs live!
