NYC Singer-songwriter Kate Schutt releases new single “Fight the Good Fight”

(New York, NY – March 25, 2021) Award-winning jazz-pop singer-songwriter Kate Schutt rolls out her new single, “Fight the Good Fight,” from her upcoming album, Bright Nowhere. The album is a musical tribute to her mother who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2015. “Fight the Good Fight” is out now on Spotify and all other digital platforms. The full album emerges on April 30th, in time for Mother’s Day.

Kate teamed up with Emmy Award-winning producer/arranger Rob Mounsey (who has also worked with Paul Simon, James Taylor, Michael Bublé, Rihanna, Madonna, and Diana Krall), to produce her newest project. Mounsey says Kate’s album is “a work of artistry and humanity, full of thought, humour and heart, and above all deep sincerity. It needs to be experienced by anyone who has ever struggled to care for someone or to accept care from someone, to love someone or to be loved by someone.”

Bright Nowhere was mixed by twelve-time Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer, Jay Newland, known for his work on Norah Jones’s multiple award-winning albums, Come Away With Me. After listening to her new album, Newland calls Schutt “one of the next great American songwriters.”

Check out Kate’s new single, “Fight the Good Fight,” on Spotify and all other digital platforms.  Look out for the full album, Bright Nowhere, out everywhere on April 30th.

Kate Schutt (pronounced “shut”) is an award-winning songwriter, singer, guitarist, and producer. She studied English Literature at Harvard and jazz guitar at Berklee College of Music. In 2018, Schutt gave a TEDx talk, “A Grief Casserole – How to Help Your Friends & Family through Loss,” which has been called “nothing short of life-changing” for people dealing with grief.

Kate took a 5 year break from songwriting, performing, and touring to be her mom’s primary caregiver. Her new album, Bright Nowhere, is a gift to her mother and the culmination of their bittersweet journey together. The music is candid and compassionate and, ultimately, life-affirming.

Bright Nowhere has many literary influences. Christopher Hitchens’s slim memoir, Mortality, about his fight with throat cancer, was a touchstone for Kate. “I wanted to write the album equivalent of that searing, powerful book,” she says. “I was never not reading Mortality during my time with my mom.” Kate titled the album, “Bright Nowhere,” from Seamus Heaney’s poem, “Clearances,” one of eight sonnets dedicated to the Nobel Prize-winning Irish poet’s relationship with his own mother.
