One woman band pronoun (Alyse Vellturo) returns to remind you that heartache is fleeting on her new track, “temporary tantrum.” The song comes from her debut album I’ll show you stronger, out May 24 via Rhyme & Reason Records.
Blissed out synths and upbeat drum beats serve as a stunning juxtaposition to the lyrical narrative, as Alyse’s blazing vocals self-consciously reflect on feelings of embarrassment. She explains; “temporary tantrum was written about that moment in the relationship when you realize you’ve been played. although in that moment it’s heartbreaking and you feel like the biggest idiot, you know that eventually you will come out on the other end and use that experience to grow.”
The theme of recovery is constant throughout her forthcoming album, i’ll show you stronger underneath the barrage of fuzzy guitars, thick bass lines, airy synths, and D.I.Y. production. “This record picks up where my first EP left off. It pretty much saved my life,” pronoun explains, “It helped me realize it’s ok to be sad, and crazy, and hurt, and vulnerable, but it’s just as important to stand up for yourself and know what you deserve, and lastly to move on.”
The project started to materialize as early as 2016 with her debut EP as pronoun, there’s no one new around you. Enduring “a horrible breakup,” she refocused on her artistry and wrote this initial body of work in between day jobs in the industry. Upheld by her production, instrumentation, and voice, pronoun attracted widespread critical acclaim from the likes of the New York Times, Boston Globe, NPR, The Line of Best Fit, and many more. Highlights—“just cuz you can’t” and “a million other things”—both eclipsed 1 million Spotify streams and counting. Additionally, she opened for the likes of Justin Courtney Pierre, Citizen, and Basement, to name a few.
Having released a handful of songs from the forthcoming full-length effort, including “stay” and “you didn’t even make the bed,” the album’s leadoff single, “run” has leapt past the 1-million-mark on Spotify, with Stereogum notably describing it as “a monster of a track.”
“I hope I’ll show you stronger can give listeners some relief—and maybe the songs get stuck in their heads,” she leaves off. “It’s relevant to so many things. Mostly, it’s about fixing a situation and emerging as a stronger person.”
