Many people like to record themselves singing as a side hobby during free time. When you first started recording your voice, it may not have met your expectations. The reason for this? You may be missing some important steps, or you made mistakes during recording. The following are five tips on how you can improve your vocal recording.

  1. Practice Every Day

The key to singing better is to keep on practicing every day. Every day, you should spend at least 30 minutes to one-hour practicing on vocal technique. While technique is important, also train yourself not to be shy if you sing off key. This mindset is especially important if you can only practice singing in a place that does not offer much privacy such as an apartment with a thin wall or sharing a space with someone. If you get a few strange looks or anyone laughs at you, don’t give up; continue practicing until you can sing well. This will prepare you for singing in front of crowds. There are many resources online to help you in your journey. You can download streaming videos on beginner vocal tutorials to learn how to sing properly.

  1. Good Posture

Your posture can affect how you sound in front of the microphone. Most people like to slouch as they lean forward to the microphone. This is the wrong posture and you should correct it by standing upright and moving your shoulders back. Keeping the chin down allows you to have better control over your vocals. To have more singing power, flex your pectoral muscles. Throughout your singing, make sure you keep the larynx muscles relaxed.

  1. Proper Breathing Technique

Every good singer knows how to breathe properly. Learning how to breathe properly can prevent you from gasping in between notes or run out air while singing a note. You want to use a minimal amount of air to release the maximum sound. The correct way of breathing is to breathe through your diaphragm. This breathing technique involves breathing in through the nose and exhaling through your mouth.

  1. Select a Good Audio Recording Tool

You can record your vocal with a screen recorder like Movavi Screen Recorder. To record your vocal, you must connect your microphone to the computer and click the microphone device button on the control panel. When you are ready, you must hit the REC button. When the recording ends, you must save it in an audio format like MP3 so that it won’t be a video.

You can use an equalizer feature to make certain aspects of your voice tone more prominent. You can go to Tools > Equalizer to enhance the recording. If you sing in a low tone, you can drag the volume boost slider up to make the recording sound louder. There are also other options in the equalizer such as bass boost/reduction, treble boost/reduction, and hum reduction.

  1. Avoid Popping and Sibilance Sound

Pronouncing words that start with P and B can create a popping sound. On the other hand, when you pronounce S and F, it will produce a hissing sound. You can filter away the popping and hissing sound by putting a pop filter in front of your microphone. Another way to remove these noises is by using the noise removal tool in a video editor of the software program you are using. In most programs in the built-in video editor, you can access this feature by clicking on the audio properties button in the toolbar. In the Audio tab, you can select Noise Removal and adjust the Noise suppression slider to remove the noise.

We hope these tips help you on your journey to improving your vocals.

  1. Thanks for your very informative blog, it is very useful and helps me a lot. I am thinking of doing an online course for learning to sing and I was reading some good reviews of online courses on https://onlinecoursesnet.com/ would you recommend an online course to learn or are private or classroom courses better to learn ? Thanks

    • Matt Ramsey offers courses. His link is at the end of the blog. As far as local courses, research local vocal coaches and schools, and be sure and check their ratings! Everyone has their own way of learning; some can handle online courses via skype, etc. while others benefit from in-person classes. Make sure you invest in what is best for you and stick with it!!
