The new single features her dad Struggle and highlights her resilience through childhood

Today, Nashville-based blues songstress Brianna Harness releases her highly anticipated single “Not The Blues Again,” featuring her father, Nashville rapper Struggle Jennings. As she sets out to become an inspiration to women everywhere, forging her own path in spite of a childhood of adversity, Harness’ latest single is a testament to her strength. Drawing from personal experience, she opens up about the cyclical nature of the blues, falling in and out of sadness time and time again.

On writing and performing “Not The Blues Again”, Brianna Harness shares “This song is one of my favorites off of my upcoming album “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” because I feel it is one of the most powerful. When the concept first came to me, I was going through what felt like waves of both depression and pure joy, feeling like I have accomplished so much but still have so much work to do. I feel the lyrics  “bottled up til it’s spilling, any minute could be the moment where the future starts to seem hopeless ” really captures the hopeless feeling we all feel when going through something that seems to have no solution. I knew my dad was the perfect fit for this song as his story is all about overcoming the Hardships he has been through and I couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out.”

Turning to music as an outlet, Harness has grown substantially from her troubled past, standing her ground in the wake of hardship and ultimately persevering. Though her childhood was teeming with musical influence from great-grandparents Jessi Colter and Waylon Jennings and her pseudo-uncles Jelly Roll and Yelawolf, she grew up under challenging circumstances, surrounded by dysfunction and addiction. Her perspective is formed by her early years, which were deeply impacted by the underbelly of the world of drugs. With her mother a stripper and her father a drug dealer serving time, there were so many paths Brianna could have chosen, yet, at the age of fifteen, she left the family home setting her on a path to become the fiercely independent and self-reliant woman she is today.

Both her biggest fan and favorite collaborator, her father Struggle Jennings adds, “I’m beyond proud of Brianna and her growth not only as a woman but as an artist . Many times our home was filled with police searching the house and carrying one of her parents away to jail. Her path was paved with her parents’ sins and she was bred to follow it into a life of crime, yet she chose to fight to overcome adversity and never give up on her dreams. When I returned from prison, we set sail on a new journey, both deciding to follow our dreams and never look back, leaving the streets behind us. She continues to up the bar and show that she is the new blues.”

Struggle continues and shares, “Brianna is proving that she is here to stay with her timeless music, iconic sound and authenticity that is rare these days, and having number one hits on iTunes and a number 3 album in blues on Billboard with her first ever recorded project, she has proven that she is here claiming her throne in Blues.”

Back from a country-wide tour alongside her dad, “Not The Blues Again” (which was just added to Spotify’s Nu-Blue playlist) follows Brianna’s sultry single, “Lonely” released earlier this year. The new face of blues, Brianna is gearing up to release her latest album, Cowgirls Don’t Cry in the coming months.
