Multi-talented singer-songwriter and artist Kat Von D unveils her latest single/music video, “Truth In Reverse,” a track lifted from her forthcoming album, My Side of the Mountain, set to release on September 20.
Talking about the album, Kat Von D shares, “‘My Side of the Mountain’ is a love letter to all hopeless romantics, outsiders, and lonely hearts trying to find their place in this cold and divisive world. When I was a kid, I read the 1959 novel ‘My Side of the Mountain’ and related so deeply with the little boy in the book who ran away from home only to find comfort in isolation, self-reflection, and self-reliance in the wilderness.
“There’s a comfort in dreaming of escapism, sure. But this album isn’t about that. It’s about confronting the shit we don’t want to face, accepting the things we can’t control, and fighting for the things that matter. I hope it makes others who feel the same a little less alone in this world.”
Written by Kat Von D and songwriter Ferras (Katy Perry, Dua Lipa, Chainsmokers), “Truth In Reverse” showcases her unique ‘80s sound, a blend of disco goth, synthwave, new wave and post-punk.
Known for transforming the tattoo industry, starring in TV shows, penning best-selling books, and founding a beauty empire, Kat Von D’s passion for music began early on. Her background in classical music and her admiration for an array of genres is disclosed in her beguiling compositions.
“Truth In Reverse” rolls out on dark, thrumming tones atop a massively thumping kick drum as Kat’s Medusa-like vocals coast overhead, imbuing the lyrics with lingering, bewitching timbres, at once spectral and eerily haunting. Silhouetting harmonies give the tune a ghostly glow, adding spellbinding depth and dimension.
