A handy and versatile new device is about to hit the market that will change the way musicians have thought about the metronome. The Soundbrenner Pulse is a wearable metronome that produces a strong and precise vibration that will allow the wearer to easily follow along with the beat. I had the opportunity to view a demonstration of the device by the CEO and cofounder, Florian Simmendinger, before the launch of their Indiegogo campaign, and I was very impressed with the features this device is capable of, all contained in a device about the size of a large watch.

Austin native Jackie Venson began playing piano at the early age of eight and grew up on classical music ultimately attending the acclaimed Berklee College of Music. It wasn’t until after Jackie graduated from Berklee that she decided to pick up the guitar and began a new musical career.
Starting her music career in Minnesota at the young age of 19, Karen Haglof would later join forces with Steve Almaas (Suicide Commandos) and form punk rock trio The Crackers which ultimately moved to New York City. There she was introduced to the art-noise rock scene having the opportunity of playing with painter, sculptor and musician Robert Longo, composer and musician Rhys Chatham throughout the ‘80s, as well as other bands, and then as a guitarist in the early ‘90s for Band of Susans. That would be the last time Karen would perform as she left the music scene for a career in medicine.
